Welcome back !
The watch is a fantastic invention of science. Our whole
world is dominated by this small electronic gadget. Today,
we will discuss various categories of watches. We can
divide it into twelve categories, analog watch, digital
watch with "LCD" and "LED", quartz watch, mechanical watch,
automatic watch, moon watch, chronograph watch, chronometer
watch, diving watch, day/date watch, pocket watches and
specialty watches.
The analog is a very common watch possessed by everybody.
In some of them they have a second hand. The digital watch
shows time in numbers. Further it is divided into two more
types. The "LCD" watch consists of a liquid crystal display
to show the time. The colors of numbers are by and large
gray or black on a lighter backdrop. The "LED" watch face
consists of a light emitting diode to show the time. It also
shows time. Its background color of numbers is red.
These days the quartz watch is used commonly. It is operated
by a battery. This watch also shows time. A mechanical
watch functions on the basis of a string of gears. These
gears get their power from a spiral. The automatic watch
looks like an analog watch. The design of this watch is made
to wind using the movement of your wrist. The moon watch has
a second dial that revolve at the rear of the customary
dial. This dial indicates the various stages of the moon or
the sun accordingly.
A chronograph watch has a stop watch function; this
function is not automatic but is started and stopped by
the user by means of pressing a button. Some people
confuse the chronometer with the chronograph. They are not
the same, the chronometer is a timepiece that is held to
the exacting standards of time set by an institution in
Switzerland. The day/date watch has a small section on the
dial that indicates the day and date.
Customarily, a pocket watch is affixed with a chain
approximately thirteen inches long by a fastener known as a
"Watch Fob".A pocket watch without cover over the crystal is
known as "railroad" used by rail men.A watch with cover over
the crystal is known as hunting case. A watch that has a
conventional crystal on the front and the back can be viewed
all the way through the cover thru to the back.
A diving watch is considered to be a water proof watch.
They are usually classified as water resistant to a depth
in meters. True divers watches are resistant to a depth of
300 meters or more. They have a screw down circlet to make
an efficient seal. Its usually has functions help the
diver, like diving depth, air usage and time underwater.
Other types of watches are specialty watches. some
examples available in the market today include pendant,
brooch and ring watches. It is interesting to note that
pendant watches are occasionally designed so they hang
in an upside down position so it can be read more easily
by the person wearing it.
